1:15 So Bathsheba visited the king in his private quarters. ¹  (The king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.)

1 Raja-raja 6:5-7

6:5 He built an extension all around the walls of the temple’s main hall and holy place and constructed side rooms in it. ²  6:6 The bottom floor of the extension was seven and a half feet ³  wide, the middle floor nine feet ⁴  wide, and the third floor ten and a half ⁵  feet wide. He made ledges ⁶  on the temple’s outer walls so the beams would not have to be inserted into the walls. ⁷  6:7 As the temple was being built, only stones shaped at the quarry ⁸  were used; the sound of hammers, pickaxes, or any other iron tool was not heard at the temple while it was being built.

6:10 He built an extension all around the temple; it was seven and a half feet high ⁹  and it was attached to the temple by cedar beams.

6:16 He built a wall 30 feet in from the rear of the temple as a partition for an inner sanctuary that would be the most holy place. ¹⁰  He paneled the wall with cedar planks from the floor to the rafters. ¹¹

18:27 At noon Elijah mocked them, “Yell louder! After all, he is a god; he may be deep in thought, or perhaps he stepped out for a moment or has taken a trip. Perhaps he is sleeping and needs to be awakened.” ¹⁴

20:30 The remaining 27,000 ran to Aphek and went into the city, but the wall fell on them. ¹⁵  Now Ben Hadad ran into the city and hid in an inner room. ¹⁶

[8:2]  ¹² sn The festival. This was the Feast of Tabernacles, see Lev 23:34.

[8:2]  ¹³ sn The month Ethanim. This would be September-October in modern reckoning.

[18:27]  ¹⁴ sn Elijah’s sarcastic proposals would have been especially offensive and irritating to Baal’s prophets, for they believed Baal was imprisoned in the underworld as death’s captive during this time of drought. Elijah’s apparent ignorance of their theology is probably designed for dramatic effect; indeed the suggestion that Baal is away on a trip or deep in sleep comes precariously close to the truth as viewed by the prophets.
